The most interesting element of this elevation in this school project was the entrance to The Hexagon, an assembly hall. The door entrance has been designed so it is both shaped on plan and elevation which created this eye-catching installation and a focal point for The Hexagon.
All sight-lines are angled and shaped including the glazing; even the door handles were specially shaped to complement the installation.
The flexibility of Comar systems and its seamless integration ensured that the design concept was achieved. Comar 6 curtain walling was selected with high span mullions to create the long lines of the installation and transoms to create the angled horizontal lines. The standardisation of Comar products means that the same 50mm sightlines are maintained throughout the project. Comar 6 also has specially extruded profiles which mean that Comar 7 doors can integrate directly into the curtain wall without the need for additional coupling profiles. Comar 6 can also incorporate transom closers to ensure the weathering of the project.
Alan Spear Ltd was invited to pre-site meetings; this meant that detailed design drawings could be agreed prior to installation and fabrication, subsequently the project ran smoothly to site deadlines.
