This striking four-storey building is the Head Office for Raglan Housing Association based in Bournemouth. Comar approved fabricator, Southern Glass, recently completed the refurbishment of its glazed entrances and windows.
To comply with the low energy directive, Approved Document L1 & L2, Southern Glass installed Comar 5P.i. windows. Comar 5P.i. is an innovative window suite that reduces heat loss through the trademark P.i. thermal break, ensuring that energy bills are minimised: buildings get warmer faster and colder slower. Comar 5P.i. is available in a variety of configurations. Here, the re-fenestration demanded vertical pivot windows coupled to a bottom fixed light. The windows were installed directly into stone reveals. Comar 5P.i. can also be manufactured into casement, tilt and turn and top-swing fully reversible windows.
The integration and design flexibility that is an integral element of all Comar systems is evident in the use of Comar 3, a double glazed ground floor framing suite, which created large glazed screens to the ground floor as well as entrances. Comar 5P.i. windows were integrated into Comar 3, as well as panels, and Comar 7 was hung directly from Comar 3.
The ability to use Comar 3 framework to house Comar 7 doors reduces the need for additional coupling profiles, providing cost efficiencies and keeping the same slim sight lines. The aluminium sections were polyester powder coated in a brown RAL colour and delivered to Southern Glass for fabrication and installation.
All Comar approved fabricators are required to have the technical expertise to attend pre-site meetings and provide detailing. Southern Glass liaised closely with the specifier to provide detailing; this meant that the project ran smoothly and to site deadlines.
