This eye-catching design for a brand new hotel extension reflects the contemporary strive to blend the new with the old, whilst being unmistakably modern.

Glazing is an important feature of this building's facade and its function is two-fold. The curtain walling on the stairwell is the main area where daylight is allowed to penetrate the building. As well as maximising the amount of natural light, the curtain wall also provides the necessary tone and textural balance between the bold red brick-work of the new wing and the more sombre grey-blue cladding of the main building. Powder coated in black, Comar 6 aluminium curtain wall links the original edifice with the new extension, giving this multi-layered façade a sleek finish.

The hotel was functioning throughout the construction period, which made the speed of installation imperative. The versatile Comar 6 stick-build curtain walling is ideally suited for such fast on-site installations. High-span mullions allow here for the five floors span, totalling 16 meters to the eaves, whilst keeping the same 50mm slim sight lines throughout the installation. Laminated and toughened glass panels are incorporated into the aluminium framework.

Aluminium's inherent longevity and low maintenance make it the metal of choice for use in curtain walling, doors and window systems in the commercial sector.
Due to their efficiency and thorough knowledge of the Comar systems, Yorkshire Aluminium, Comar's approved fabricator, completed the project successfully on time.
