In response to the Government's extensive schools' renovation plan, Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems have been working closely with Local Authorities in order to make its systems suit flawlessly to the needs of refurbishments. Because Comar's curtain walling, door and window systems are specified constantly in education and public building renovation projects, Comar has a clear understanding of the issues that are taken into consideration: health and safety, time constraints and aesthetics.
Hugh Baird College is an excellent example where Comar's systems versatility comes to the fore. The seven storey high façade was fitted with ribbon windows in a composite of two fixed lights and a horizontal pivot window. Due to the variety of beads and gaskets, Comar 5 windows can be glazed up to 45mm which, in this project, allowed for the combination of glazed panels and glass. This creates a wealth of design options and is employed here to maintain the appearance of the original 1960's façade. The entrance is fitted with Comar 7 swing doors, which are available in a variety of configurations, such as rebated, pivot, sliding, sliding/folding and swing.
This is an education building; therefore, it was imperative to finish the entire project over the six week school break. When the time factor is critical, Comar has no rivals: materials are delivered within 15 days and the systems speedy fabrication and installation ensure the normal running of the college was not affected.
