The growing impetus of building on the coastline is supported by technological advances in building materials. The design of the Camper & Nicholson office takes full advantage of this progress.

Due to its coastal location the extensive fenestration of the office raised several concerns in the planning stages: potential metal corrosion and the ability to meet the required wind loadings and U-values. Structures (UK) Ltd, a Comar approved fabricator, was involved in the project from its early design stages and worked closely with Dyer & Butler Architects on the structural calculations.

To ensure the office stands the test of time in this harsh coastal environment all fittings throughout were specified as stainless steel. All Comar systems throughout the project were polyester powder coated in white with a fifteen-year marine guarantee. Comar 6, a 50mm curtain wall system, was step-cut to provide a mullion drained solution which guarantees that water is quickly drained from the façade. Comar 5 windows with 50mm sight lines were used in a tilt & turn configuration. Comar 5 was installed directly into the wall brick reveals and integrated into Comar 6 to provide opening vents.

Comar 7P.i polyamide insulated doors on the balconies were installed to keep the level of heat loss to a minimum. The atrium consisted of a double entrance: Comar 7 swing doors were hung onto Comar 6 for the external entrance. Comar 7 sliding doors were used for the second entrance, which leads directly into the reception area. Because all Comar systems are fully integrated, the same 50mm sight-lines were maintained throughout the façade.
