Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems, with their approved fabricator Rooflight Systems, completed this Leisure Centre in Guernsey. Working closely with London-based Orms Architects helped Rooflight to achieve the design brief. Because the installation was carried out in the still functioning leisure centre, speed of refurbishment was of key importance. When the time factor is critical, Comar has no rivals: materials are delivered within 15 days and the systems speedy fabrication and installation ensures that business is not hindered during the building's refurbishment.
The original façade around the swimming pool and the gym area was removed and replaced with stick-build Comar 6 - the on-site curtain wall construction option. Double glazed laminated glass was fitted into the curtain walling, as a safety measure, for the swimming pool. Comar 6 was used again for the new health and beauty and café area, integrating Comar 7 swing, butt hung rebated doors.
Comar 6 curtain wall corner mullions are adjustable to 135°, which means roof glazing applications are achievable. Here this feature was used for sloped glazing for the swimming pool area façade's top panelling which, as a result, allows extra light in the swimming area. The glazing was complete with Comar 5 top open windows, which integrated elegantly into the Comar 6 façade. The profile was polyester powder coated to a light grey RAL colour, which created the overall aesthetically pleasing design.
