How Comar Helps Deliver the IOC's Evaluation

To drive the regeneration of the East of London, delivering a high quality environment for business and opportunities for local people

Comar is the largest wholly British owned aluminium systems house in Europe and the only British aluminium systems house based in the London area. Comar is based in Mitcham, within the M25, approximately 15 miles from the proposed construction of the Olympic Park and Olympic Village. Comar employs 100 Londoners at it's Mitcham Head Quarters, employing personnel from many ethnic minorities.

Comar supplies aluminium to fabricators throughout the East End of London. These companies each employs 10-50 Londoners drawn from the diverse ethnic mix that is London. Comar works in a synergistic relationship with it's customers, actively finding work under the Comar brand banner. Comar creates wealth in the UK economy for the UK economy through employment and a commitment to growth which has seen its UK base of offices treble in the London area. Comar has experienced rapid growth over the last 7 years, between 10-20% growth per year, indicating that its strategy is strong and Comar successfully meets its customers needs. Comar competes with worldwide and European companies in the UK market. Comar is the only company whose wealth is redeployed in the UK economy: no banks or shareholders in other countries take revenues out of the country.

Comar is renowned for partnering London Boroughs, providing fast tender returns to achieve best practice and project-by-project design and installation support. Comar's basic strategic competitive advantage is delivery and stock holding: where competitors are owned by banks or multi-nationals gearing for shareholders often involves running low stocks resulting in poor delivery.

Comar offers design advice and architectural calculations freely to architectural practices throughout London and the UK. Comar regulary develops new profiles and systems to help architects, contractors and the fabricator achieve design briefs.

London 2012® will provide lasting legacy for future generations - in health, homes and jobs and of course sport

By utilising Comar as the strategic partner for aluminium facades employment is created in two ways: it's fabricator network based in the London area, and Comar employment.

London is committed to ensuring that the 2012 games will be zero waste... This will be achieved through the principles of minimising waste at source, maximising recycling and using waste materials as energy source

Comar products are aluminium which is one of the most recyclable materials available: over 75% of aluminium used in construction comes from recycled sources. Sustainability concerns are alleviated with the knowledge that there are over 300 years of know sources of aluminium's raw material Bauxite. Comar published it's sustainability statement in 2003 and communicates this by it's website and the back page of all literature. Internally Comar recycles all it's paper material in line with it's green policy.

All new developments will utilise best practice to proof against future climate change, to minimise energy demands, manage energy consumption and to respect the surrounding architectural heritage

The Pi range from Comar decreases energy consumption in buildings by keeping buildings warmer for longer. The Pi range also serves to keep buildings cooler for longer thus reducing the need for air conditioning. Click here for further information.

Comar also supplies a range of brise soliel which is a passive means of solar shading reducing the need for air conditioning. Click here for further information on the Comar Climate Active Facade.
